Thanksgiving Day: the recipe of the year

Blog

Thanksgiving is approaching; have you already planned the menu for your guests? Here is our recipe for the timeless mac and cheese, a tasty dish loved by young and old and very easy to cook, here revised with an Italian twist. Have fun!

Mac and cheese, the recipe for Thanksgiving Day in Italian style

A famous American dish, the undisputed protagonist of mac and cheese is pasta, a food that once again confirms its versatility and ease of preparation. The pasta is partnered with a mix of cheeses that become stringy and golden on the surface when cooked, creating a succulent and flavorful dish.

You can choose the cheeses to use according to your personal taste, or what you have in the refrigerator; in our recipe we suggest fontina, parmesan cheese and emmental, however grana padano, provola, mozzarella are also fine.

If you wish, you can top it with béchamel or Mornay sauce; this will make the mac and cheese even more appetizing!

Mac and Cheese: Ingredients for 8 people

  • 800 g macaroni or rigatoni
  • 300 g of fontina
  • 300 g of emmental
  • 200 g of grated parmesan cheese
  • bread crumbs
  • 1 pack of béchamel or Mornay sauce

Method

Cook the macaroni or rigatoni in plenty of salted water and drain them very al dente (after about 9 to 10 minutes of cooking time; for details on timing, follow the information on the package). Meanwhile, cut the cheeses into cubes.

Drain the pasta well and spread it out in a nonstick baking dish, taking care to create several alternating pasta - cheese - pasta - cheese layers. On the top layer sprinkle breadcrumbs and finally béchamel or Mornay sauce.

Bake in the oven at 200° with a grill for 10–15 minutes; the surface will become gratinated like this, and the dish can be served on the table ready to be enjoyed with friends!
