How should I serve panettone? Delicious ideas for the holidays
An undisputed symbol of Italian Christmas, panettone can be enjoyed "au naturel" or enriched with a few tricks to make it even more special. Here are some ideas to try:
- Served warm: lightly heating the panettone (5 minutes in the oven at a low temperature, or near a heat source) enhances the aromas of butter, vanilla, and candied fruit, and spreads an irresistible fragrance throughout the house!
- With creams and sauces: serve it with custard, zabaglione, mascarpone, or a chocolate ganache, panettone takes on a new soul, one that true gourmands will especially appreciate
- With ice cream or semifreddo: Do you want to amaze your guests? Serve a slice of panettone with a scoop of cream or hazelnut ice cream – a truly fresh and surprising dessert!
- Paired with wines and sparkling wines: Moscato d'Asti, Passito, or Franciacorta are some of the excellent Italian wines that perfectly accompany the sweetness of panettone, for an unforgettable Christmas toast
- Gourmet version: for a scenic touch, add fresh fruit such as raspberries, strawberries, candied oranges, and complete with a sprinkling of powdered sugar.
Panettone leftover recipes
Do you still have panettone at home after the holidays? Don't worry! This traditional dessert lends itself to being reinvented in many delicious variations:
- Panettone tiramisu: instead of ladyfingers, use lightly toasted slices of panettone, alternating them with layers of mascarpone cream and cocoa
- Panettone pudding: combine panettone with milk, eggs and sugar, bake and you will get a warm and fragrant Anglo-Saxon-style dessert
- Semifreddo: break up the panettone and use it as a base to compose a semifreddo with whipped cream, dried fruit or chocolate chips
- Panettone Charlotte: line a mold with thin slices of panettone and fill it with mousse or cream. A spectacular and delicious result!
- Desserts in a glass: quickly create single servings by alternating cubes of panettone, cream and fresh fruit.
So many smart and creative ways to avoid wasting anything... and to continue enjoying Christmas even after the holidays!
