Recipe: gnocchi alla sorrentina
A simple, authentic dish that captures the essence of Italian cooking: few ingredients, high quality, and a rich, comforting flavor. Gnocchi alla sorrentina are a great classic of Campanian tradition, loved for their creaminess, the aroma of basil, and the mozzarella that melts into a tender embrace.
To prepare them, you need very few, easily available ingredients: potato gnocchi, tomato sauce, mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, and fresh basil.
In our online store, you can also find gluten-free potato gnocchi, perfect for those with special dietary needs who don't want to compromise on taste.
Gnocchi alla sorrentina: ingredients for 4 people
- 1 kg potato gnocchi
- Basil sauce
- 300 g of mozzarella or fiordilatte cheese
- Grated Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, to taste
- Fresh basil to taste
- Salt to taste
Method
Bring the water to a boil in a non-stick saucepan. Once the water is boiling, add the salt and drop in the gnocchi. As soon as they rise to the surface, they are ready: it takes about 2 minutes.
Gently drain the gnocchi and transfer them to the pot with the hot sauce and mix well.
In a baking dish, arrange a first layer of gnocchi, add some of the diced mozzarella and a generous sprinkling of grated Parmesan cheese. Add a second layer of gnocchi and finish with more mozzarella and plenty of Parmigiano; that's what will create a delicious golden crust in the oven.
Place in the oven at 400 °F on broil for about 10 minutes, until the top is nicely gratinated and the mozzarella is perfectly melted and stretchy.
Remove from the oven, garnish with a few fresh basil leaves, and serve immediately: your gnocchi alla sorrentina are ready to delight from the very first bite!
An extra touch: homemade tomato sauce
To make this recipe even more special, you can prepare a homemade tomato sauce — a simple idea for an irresistibly aromatic result!
In a pot, gently sauté a clove of garlic in a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, add the tomato purée, season with salt, and let it simmer over low heat for about 20 minutes. Remember to remove the garlic before tossing it with the gnocchi.
The result? A dish that evokes tradition and Italian cooking, made with love!
