Cooking Camps for kids in summer 2026: how our classes work

Blog

A fun, engaging, and constructive way to liven up our children’s summers, giving them experiences that are new, creative… and delicious. These are the summer cooking camps for kids and teens from Healthy Italia, a cooking and gastronomy school founded by Cristina Bossini which is now a go-to destination in Madison, New Jersey for those who want to enjoy authentic Italian cuisine and the best genuine Made in Italy products.

Let's find out how the cooking summer camps for kids and teens work.

Cooking summer camps for kids and teens: how they work

The cooking summer camps are a special opportunity that Healthy Italia has created to engage children and teenagers during school breaks. The initiative is designed both to provide practical support for families, who often have to juggle work and childcare in the summer, and to turn children’s free time into an enjoyable, educational and stimulating experience.

The program is structured over four half-days, from Monday to Thursday, during which participants will learn how to prepare some traditional Italian recipes by literally getting their hands dirty. This practical and exciting concept allows kids and teens to try their hand at making gnocchi, ravioli, meatballs, pizza, fresh pasta, desserts and many other Italian specialties.

Each activity is always carried out under the attentive guidance of Healthy Italia's staff, who will support the young chefs step by step, making each dish a moment of discovery, creativity and satisfaction.

Another benefit of the program is its focus on healthy recipes, the quality of the ingredients, and nutritional education. In fact, the summer cooking camps are an excellent way to discover healthy cooking, learn the importance of choosing and recognizing authentic products – the ingredients used come from selected farms which Healthy Italia has been working with for years – and adopt a healthy lifestyle.

This is a leisure activity that combines fun, learning, and wellbeing, providing children with useful skills and instilling in them the joy of cooking at home.

Cooking summer camps activities

In fact, it's the very idea of “getting your hands dirty” that lies at the heart of Healthy Italia’s summer camps for kids and teens.

Through workshops, kids and teens are engaged in productive, creative, and dynamic activities, learning practical cooking skills in a calm environment.

The main activities of our cooking summer camps for kids and teens:

  • Participants prepare some of the most popular traditional Italian dishes from scratch
  • They get to taste what they cook during the day and take their creations home, so that their parents can also sample their dishes
  • Under our staff’s supervision, they learn how to use the most common kitchen utensils, how to properly cut ingredients, and all the preparatory steps for the recipes
  • They learn the main rules for safety in the kitchen
  • They develop manual skills, creativity, and a collaborative spirit by working together with the other participants.

New for 2026: To make the cooking summer camps even more engaging, this year we've introduced creative experiments into each session, along with the preparation of soups that will be donated to local charities. This is a tangible way to convey the values of sharing and solidarity.

How the summer cooking camps for kids work

Let’s take a closer look at how Healthy Italia’s summer cooking camps for kids are organized:

  • The cooking summer camps are organized into separate weeks: so you can register for individual weeks if you want, choosing the ones which best suit your needs.
  • Sessions are held from Monday to Thursday. For children aged 6 to 10, sessions take place in the morning, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Each session has a maximum of 16 participants, ensuring that everyone has the space they need to work comfortably and cook independently
  • Each child shares a cooking station with another participant, but works with their own individual set of ingredients
  • All the preparations are made from scratch, starting with the basic ingredients: this way, children can truly learn how each recipe is created
  • During the camp, participants get to eat what they cook, enjoying a complete experience from the initial mixing of the dough to the final tasting
  • Each child is provided with containers to take home any leftovers, so they can also share the results with their family

At the end of the week, each participant receives a binder containing all the recipes they made during the camp, so they can recreate them at home and continue to have fun in the kitchen with the whole family.

How the summer cooking camps for teens work

The summer cooking camps for teens are organized in the same way as the camps for kids, maintaining a practical, engaging approach that is always supervised by the Healthy Italia team.

The main difference is the schedule: sessions are still held from Monday to Thursday, but for children aged 11 and over they are held in the afternoon, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

For teens, too, the experience is based on “learning by doing”: participants prepare recipes from scratch, learn cooking techniques, use the most common utensils, and experience each stage of the preparation firsthand.

Of course, the explanations, activities, and levels of independence are tailored to the age of the participants, ensuring that the program is stimulating and suited to their abilities. However, the teens are carefully looked after and supervised by Healthy Italia's staff at all times.

It’s a perfect opportunity to develop independence, creativity and useful skills, while experiencing cooking in a fun environment alongside peers.
